Event: The Siege of Raileys Folley
Raileys Folley
The town of Raileys Folley was located in the region known as the Fae-Flats, similar to the Northarm, this region was made up of former Lordsmen, who made their way through the Bleakwoods dividing the Bay of Gleshmere and settled into the region looked over by the Fae peoples. It is one of the northernmost human settlements on Malteria, and was as a result largely self-sufficient, though it traded frequently with the town of Whistlepointe and counted itself as a protectorate of Sanctum.
The fall of the city began in the early days of the Scintillian Crisis. The Undead Legionnaires of Scintillia descended southward and overran the town of Tambea, the survivors fled west and found themselves residence at Raileys Folley in the form of a ragged tent city. It was mere weeks before the 2nd Legion followed through the Bleakwood and surrounded the city.
Realizing the danger, the guard of Railey's Folley sent forth messengers to Sanctum to plead for aid. Immediately the Sanctumites began marshaling their forces. In the coming weeks, the 2nd Legion would construct a semi-circular earthen rampart separating the town from the road to Sanctum. Skirmishing between Sanctumite Cavalry, the Guard of Folley and Legionnaires continued for quite some time.
The final battle came at Dusk, as legionnaires unleashed a tide of feral undead before them to exhaust the guard's ammunition stores. Phalanxes of heavy infantry approached the wall and swept through the refugee camp and engaged levy forces made up of Tambean survivors and local huntsmen.
By nightfall the levy had been largely destroyed, the survivors retreated within the walls of the city. The remainder of the evening saw repeated attempts by Legionnaire sappers to use explosives on the wall. But the Guard were able to prevent a breach
In the morning the battle reached a fever pitch as the Legionnaires placed a ladder on the Bastion of the Wall, forcing the Guard to set fire to the position to prevent a major breach.
In a turn of luck for the guard, the fire from the wall bastion spread to the housing outside of the wall. the conflagration prevented the undead from approaching for a few hours.
That evening, after the fires had gone down, the Legion launched their final assault on the wall. This time archers could not use the bastion to prevent the attack, though marksmen sat on rooftops to attempt to stop the onrushing sappers, it was far from sufficient. A massive explosion ripped open the wall, and soon a flood of legionnaires filled the streets of Railey's Folley
The Last stand of the guard came at the Blacksmiths shop, the town fathers and a handful of guard used everything at their disposal against rampaging feral undead and legionnaires. But it was a hopeless resistance. The city fell before morning, a new holding in the grisly kingdom of Scintillia
