Place of Interest: Underkeep

The Underkeep was one of many places once built by the wizards of Nidal as bunker, called Arcane Barrows, in case they needed protection from some disatorious spell, or in the Underkeep’s case wanted to be left alone. This particular Arcane Barrow was used by the twin wizards Jesper-The Ever Living, and Nizam-The First Necromancer (and magus of the Order Arcanus) the brothers had devised this Barrow as a safe haven for their less scrupulous actions such as necromancing people, seeking ever greater immortality, and other quasi-blasphemous actions. Though due to his oft leaving the Barrow for his business in the Tower of Nidal eventually Nizam was captured by the Jailers of Oricalcos, Prison of the Old Gods, he would eventually escape though through unknown means. And as such he would eventually become entrapped in the Tower after the cataclysm. Jesper, however, fared much better as he had long before attained his “immortality” this being the case he never left the Barrow mostly keeping contacts on the outside and with Spiders of the Weave as they come and go as they please in the tunnels near the Barrow. Jesper keeps to himself with a ever changing harem of summoned succubi as he studies more about the Arcana and Abyss to further his “immortality”. Other inhabitants of the Underkeep include a Phase Spider Witch known as Madame Many Leggs, and her clutch of dire spiders. A few bickering “factions” of alchemist, the most prominent of which is a Noblemen for Norastrah, Neville Pentigrast, he found the keep through a mutual contact he and Jesper share and through proxy talks was granted a room in the keep. Though he doesn’t stay permanently in the keep due to his duties in Norastrah, he does however keep the Underkeep a secret from the House of Lords as a part of his deal with Jesper.

Jesper-The Ever Living

Jesper was once a mortal Nidalese wizard, some even think he was once a wizard of the Order Arcanus, however no hard evidence has ever been found.

Little else is known about this enigmatic man outside folk tales still told about he and his brother in the homes of Lutherics.

Outside those tales, save to a select few, he is otherwise thought be just that, a story.

Alas that couldn't be further from the truth this narcissistic man spent his life searching for life ever lasting.

He found it...or at least so he thought.

After years of studying texts from other-worldly beings he discovered a ritual to extends ones life infinitely, but at great cost.

It required copious amounts of blood and flesh, being a wizard of some power at the time he used his spells to charm hundreds to be sacrificed.

But as he began the ritual the Order Arcanus caught wind of his deeds and assembled to stop him however as his twin brother numbered their ranks, he was able to escape with plenty of people to complete the ritual.

Though to his dismay he would find that the ritual only kept his mind and soul intact his body could still wither, so he retreated to his dungeon in the Underkeep where he uses a blood ritual involving fornication, succubi, and cannibalism to keep his body from rotting further.

Nizam-The First Necromancer

Though it is impossible to prove he was the first wizard to ever raise the dead he was the first Nidalese wizard to do it thus the title stuck. Like the other wizards of the Order Arcanus he wanted to use his mastery of the Arcana to better the nation of Nidal, but he also had other ideas. Unlike the other wizards Nizam wished to conquer lands beyond the great walls of Nidal, so to try an convence the other wizards that they could he raised his first army of undeath, but his necromancy did not just raise the undead it could conjure them as well, he placed runes on all his undead horde if one was struck two more would be summoned. The other wizards did not see fit to stop him, after all he only wanted to make Nidal greater. The Old Gods, the ones long forgotten, however saw different, so with their they sealed Nizam and his horde in Oricalcos. The ancient prison they trapped all who committed crimes saw as an affront to the gods, some tales suggest that he escaped however....

Madame Many Leggs

A Phase Spider of the Barony of quite some renown, though most regular folks don't know of her many of the greater denizens of Malteria are well acquainted with her, also known in some circles as "The Lady of a Thousand Whispers" she has a large spy network and seeing as all her spies and herself can understand all languages...you can imagine not much escapes her notice. She is witch in the Underkeep she practices her brews and hexes away from the Weave for safety. Many of the ones in the know come to the Lady for information...though always at a cost, it's up to you in the cost is too high...

Neville Pentigrast

The newest denizen of the Underkeep, Neville part time lives in the Arcane Barrow with the other powerful magic users, and part-time help runs the sprawling city states of Norastrah in the House of Lords. He is know publicly as a strange and enigmatic alchemist whose policies are always pushing for more exploration and acquisition of rare resources. His Daughter, Deliza, is the main reason he can keep such good face with the public the sweet girl is able to convince the public that her father is merely trying to bolster Norastrahs military defense against magic with his research and policies, poor girl doesn't know he simply wishes to be like the wizards of the old Nidal legends he constant obsesses over. In fact it was thanks to Neville that Norastrah even made contact with LuthericBurg he and his daughter stumbled upon the cities port by mistake during a storm. It was here that Neville found in the Lutherics library the stories that would drive him to his current state.
