Lore: The Cardinal Giants

On the boarder of Gleshmere and Pessawyr is the small city of Jörmungandr, built out of the carcass of a giant snake, it is the home of the Giants. They live in solitude, only two outsiders have ever been to the city one was a king of the Dark Wardens, the other was Gleshmere himself. Though Giants do not live alone in there city, the other inhabitants the Skalds a servitor race, created by a great Giant wizard eons ago at the cities creation, to assist in things that would take giants much longer to do, and as well, upkeep the city. Skalds are creations that appear much as a Giant would, save they are made of the bones and hair of fallen giants, they stand as tall as a horse and look similar to rock golems. Most belong to a specific Giant family so most are adorned with heraldry of the family they belong. Giants themselves come in many shapes, they say no two giants look alike some even look like beasts, Giants range between the size of a hill and tall mountains.

Being long lived creatures, and near impossible to kill Giants rarely mate, choosing instead to take up exploring or mastering crafts or studies, as such there are few Giants only numbering around 50-60 at any given time. Giants live with no boarders and knowing little can harm them they travel with little to no regard for nation boarders or territory. This has lead many nations who are aware of Giants to be nearly always hostile to them on sight, due to them being inherently dangerous. Though no prolonged conflict involving Giants has occurred in recorded history  there have been some battles with and involving them.

Most Giants do indeed travel the realms and hone crafts, but few ever become truly great their are four Giants that are known widely through out the Giant community and lore, they are known as the Cardinal Giants.  Named such as the for the cardinal directions, which are scared to Giants. In fact it is custom once one has reached the paragon status of Cardinal, to return to the city and exit through one of the four gates of the city each for the four directions. Bestowing to each who earn the right a title based on the ceremonial gate they exited, Norður ,Suður ,Austur , and Vestur respectfully.

The Norður: From House Mimir, this giant was known for his mastery over magic and zeal for adventure.  He used his magics to perfect the Skalds of the city. Reforging them with mythril with transmutation magic, making them almost indestructible. The task that truly earned him the title of Cardinal was his adventures mapping all the realms to a magical map that changes as the world does and bequeathed it to the scholars of Glonwyr. He now sits atop a iron fortress in Nidal watching over Luthericburg and defending it against the demon horde.

The Suður: None know this Giants name only that they came from House Tyr. The Giant left in shining golden armor and returned smelling of Mort and embalming fluid, they never spoke. Their golden armor tarnished to a ebony black. Though none speak of why this Giant was allowed the title it is said by those who have spoke with the Glonwyr emissaries that the Giant is the first and only Giant Lich...but who knows, the Warrior is also known for their service in battle with the Pessawyrs.

The Austur: This one hails from no house, a house-less Giant. This oft happens when Giants are disowned or even if they forsake the house for other ways. This giant left her home for a life with the wild things. Animals, Plants, Weather and all of natures other glories. This Giant became a powerful druid and help fortify the lands around Jörmungandr, the crops haven't failed since. However the act that earned this Giant her paragon title was the founding of the City of Tales and Fables. A land of lush wilderness and beauty, where she awoken the animals of the land and send them around the realms to help where they can.

The Vestur: Know far and wide as the greatest hero in Giant folk lore. The Golden King, who sits upon his golden throne watching over the prison of Khalash. A simple story of good fighting evil. The Giant along side powerful elemental lords imprisoned the evil lord of fire. Sacrificing his free will the Giant chose to stay inside the prison watching over it until the day he dies.
